Rosie Perez
Rosie Perez (born Rosa Maria Perez on the 6th of September 1964) is an American choreographer, actress dancer, activist and dancer. Her breakthrough was with Tina's part in Do the Right Thing (1989), and then White Men Can't Hop (1992). Perez's performance on Fearless (1993) was a huge success and earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. It Could Happen to You (1994), The Road to El Dorado ((2000), Pineapple Express (2008) and Birds of Prey (2010) are her main role in movies.
Perez has been nominated for three Primetime Emmy Award nominations in In Living Color (1990-1994) and an additional Emmy nomination (2020-present) for her role in the role of The Flight Attendant. Perez has been in Broadway stage productions like The Ritz and Frankie, Johnny in the Clair de Lune and Fish in the Dark. She also hosted The View's 18th season on ABC's talk show The View.
Childhood and early life
Perez was born on September 6 1964, in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City, to Lydia Perez and Ismael Serrano an ocean-going merchant mariner. [3][4][5] Her mother Lydia (nee Fontanez y Reyes) was born on 13 October 1939 in Humacao, Puerto Rico. Her father was born in Aguadilla in Puerto Rico. Arturo Perez was her mother's 20-year-old husband. After having an affair with Serrano, her mother had already five children. Perez was born in the now-closed Greenpoint Hospital, Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Perez is one tenth of her ten children. Rosie as well as her siblings grew up in Bushwick during the time when their mother was held in jail. Her mother was in jail when she gave birth to her youngest child. After being raised by an aunt, she ended up in group homes and foster care. The siblings of her were often split. She was put into a foster home for children and she lived in foster care in New York until she reached the age of eight. At the age of twelve the girl was considered legal a ward in New York. Her aunt and mother frequently visited her, and her father was unsuccessful in his attempts to gain custody at one time.
